Fully electric cars with big batteries often charge a few times a week. A plug-in hybrid has a smaller battery that a normal day of driving empties, so you plug in most evenings. Every one of those nights is a chance to pay less, and over a year the small savings add up.
Many plug-in hybrid owners charge from a regular wall socket. That's slow, so the car needs a big part of the night. A night is still long enough, and there's room to move the charge to the hours when electricity is cheapest.
A regular socket fits in one night
